After breakfast drive to Nimaj – Chhatrasagar
At the end of the 19thcentury, Thakur of Nimaj • Thakur Chhatra Singh, a powerful politician of the desert country of Marwar (Jodhpur), decided to ensure that seasonal rivers flow through his land. His vision was to build a reservoir to collect monsoon rains. It was a huge task that drained his resources, but Thakur Chhatra Singh remained true to his vision.
The dam, completed in 1890, transformed dry lands into fertile agricultural land. Thakur Chhatra Singh invited farmers who were finding it difficult to survive on dry land to live around the lake. In his honor the reservoir was named Chhatra Sagar.
By early twentieth century Chhatra Sagar had developed into a lush green oasis. With its wide
open spaces and enchanting views, it became the entertainment venue of choice. To capture the outdoor “big sky” feel of the place, permanent construction was deliberately kept to a minimum.
A fresh luxury tented camp was created for each party. For many dignitaries visiting Nimaj, “Camp Chhatra Sagar” was the highlight. Legendary sporting parties with high tea and exotic dinners
became a regular feature.
The famed “Camp Chhatra Sagar” has been recreated by the great grandchildren of Thakur.
Chhatra Singh& is a finest example of Royal Hospitality.
Arrive at Nimaj in the afternoon and settle into your luxury tent; They have always been an important part of the Rajput lifestyle. Constantly Journeys to remote areas meant staying in a tent for long periods of time in harsh conditions. Tents were the only luxury available and thus became "home away from home" transforming them into mobile mini palaces.
After your Lunch at the Camp, A visit guided by the members of the family to these settlements makes one understand the traditional, rural Rajasthani lifestyle, which lays stress on harmony, conservation and the full utilization of its natural resources.
Dining Experience Amidst nature: Food at Chhatra Sagar is exceptional, whether in the dining tent overlooking the lake or under the stars. The chefs at Chhatra Sagar will serve you’re their signature dishes that have been used for generations and are prepared with fresh ingredients produced in their organic farms.
